Braat shows the pitch and resonance of your voice in real time while you speak. It’s built for voice training, including trans voice training, where pitch and vowel resonance are the usual reference points. Everything runs in the browser and no audio is uploaded.
Braat is Jocelyn Stericker’s project, released under the AGPL-3.0, and the original runs at braat.app. Its analysis is adapted from Praat, the phonetics research tool. Braat Nova is my fork, with features I wanted for my own practice. My changes are under the same licence.
[Why you forked it: what was missing for you]
- A pitch view modelled on Voice Tools, with continuous timeline scrolling and a moving-average pitch marker.
- A mic check that plays speech-like sound and spots microphones that mute you.
- A reading sidebar with saved practice texts and a live Markdown notes panel.
- Timeline markers for quick highlights, and a transcript panel that follows the recording.
- Exporting a selected snippet as MP3, Opus or AAC.
- A narrowband spectrogram that shows harmonics.
- Side-by-side, merged and compact layouts for analysing recordings.
- A shared frame clock that caps redraws, plus a power saver mode.
